In October last year I took my first overseas trip to beautiful Stockholm, Sweden to present my paper ‘Expressing nonsuicidal self-injury: using creative writing and autobiographical fiction as self-care’ at the Autobiography 2014 conference at Södertörn University.
The conference ran over three days and featured presentations from scholars working in a range of disciplines from around the globe. I had a wonderful time at the conference meeting international scholars at varying stages of their career, hearing them discuss literature, life-writing, autobiography, autofiction, therapeutic writing and putting the self on the page. The conference organisers were very welcoming making the experience even more enjoyable. Stockholm is a beautiful city, I don’t think a day has gone by since my visit when I have not thought about its many charms.
The editorial team have done a fantastic job making this collection a reality. It is a beautiful publication! Particular thanks must go to Kerstin Shands and Giulia Grillo Mikrut for their efforts – thank you ladies!
